The past several weeks have seen me thrown down into the revision hole. I got my copy edits from my editor at the end of August, returned them in a week, got my next revisions the following week, then it's been back and forth with my cover, my pass pages, formatting, etc.
All that to say, my book is done! GRAVITY'S HEIR is completely turned in, formatted, ready to go to print. It has a cover, an ISBN, and even a preorder page ready for me to share it. Now I just have to figure out how to do that. Whoo hoo marketing!
Wait, how do I do this again? As a debut author, this part of the publishing process is all new to me. To be honest, beyond the drafting, revising, procrastinating, and writing stage, it's all new to me. I'm not entirely sure how I'm supposed to build an audience of readers, how to get my book in front of the people who might possibly want to read it, and then to convince them to buy and read my book. So we're going to discover this process together.
Over the next few weeks and months, I'm going to attempt to document my journey toward my publication date on February 6, 2020. I have conventions already scheduled where I can talk up my book to potential fans, and because I love science fiction and fantasy conventions. Beyond that, though, i'm going to be shooting in the dark and figuring out what works and what doesn't.
Also, I'll try and be honest about how that's butting up against my other identity as mother of two and wife to an incredible husband. For example, today, I'm rapidly typing out this blog post while my 15-month-old daughter sleeps off a five hour morning trip to the emergency room and my husband nods off beside me on a work call. (Baby is fine. Just a really bad stomach bug and some dehydration, but she's eating and finally holding food down.)
And she's up from her nap. I'm going to attempt to get back on tonight and give some rundown of what I'm thinking for a cover reveal either later this week or next week, potential giveaways for preorders, etc. It's all brainstorming and planning at this point, but I hope you'll join me as I figure it all out.
Cheers!
