Pairings Project

Updated: Aug 24, 2019

I'm not great at the confessional type blog post, and I don't feel I have enough authority to write the how-to type post that is so popular. I'll work at both, I promise, as I move closer to my debut date and gain some sort of following. Frankly, though, I'm currently just writing for me.

To make it easier to commit to some sort of blogging schedule, though, I thought I might find some way to marry some of interests. I love writing, reading, and craft cocktails. So, I'm going to start a themed project, tentatively titled the Pairings Project. I'm slowly making my way through my reading list of books I've picked up over the past little bit. Most of these are titles that have been released in the past year, and some have yet to be published at all. And then there are the occasional books that were released years ago that I'm only now just getting to read. (Hey, I have two kids, and with only one of them in school, it's hard to find time.)

As I read through these books and write reviews for GoodReads, Amazon, etc, I'll also be posting them here, but with something extra for you. I'm going to pair each awesome book with its own appropriate cocktail. Most of my drink choices will be stuff I can make with the things I have at home (embarrassingly extensive collection of liquor that I never drink otherwise), and with minimal mixing experience. Occasionally I may go to my favorite bar and order something fancy, or I may venture outside the norm with a fun specialty cocktail or even make something up (given more experience), but for the most part, you should be able to make any of these cocktails with ingredients you have on hand or can pick up at the liquor or grocery store. I won't be making my own simple syrups until I damn well feel like it.

For now, I'm just going to have fun with these incredible books, some cocktail mixing, and a review or two. I hope you'll join me on this journey!
